You can bet I’ll be running out to buy my copy as soon as I’m done typing, and I won’t ramble on too long so you can do the same. What did I love about Princess Academy? The writing is lyrical, as always with Shannon Hale’s books. The emphasis on sound in the quarry people lifestyle is genius. The reader experiences the joy of a child first learning to read, and the amazing ramifications it has on her life. But most importantly, this is not your typical princess book. The main character is smart, tough, and (spoiler alert) relieved to NOT be selected as the princess. And readers love Miri all the more for it.
This release is well timed with much ongoing debate on Shannon’s blog right now regarding why boys don’t read girl books. Love the comical photos of “Real Men Read Princess Academy.” Either Shannon has a lot of dirt on those men, or she has an incredible group of friends and family!
